On October 26, 2012, we purchased the property on Poplar Avenue that for several years we had been using for parking. So we now have off street parking for all of our rooms, and also we will have some additional suites. Both of the buildings need a lot of work, but we enjoy a good project! Last fall we had the pleasure of corresponding with one of the long-time owner's grand-daughter who gave us this history of the building:
The
property most recently was run as Kaye's Guest House in the summers. Her
parents were married in the house in 1949 and spent the first night of their
honeymoon in the front, large bedroom upstairs.
They spent every summer evening on the porch,
listening to the screams from the roller coaster on Hunt's Pier. The porch was
filled with beautiful Victorian wicker chairs and a porch swing. On the ground
level there was a billiards room and a bowling lane, built by the original
owners, a wealthy family that used it as a summer home. There was a hitching
post out front that had disappeared by the time she last visited the property
around 2004.
Her grandfather, was a prominent member of the business community, beginning in the 1920's. He owned the trolley company and the lumber yard, and was president of the Wildwood Chamber of Commerce. He founded the Jewish synagogue on Pacific Avenue in 1929. You can see a picture of him in the front lobby of the synagogue.
